HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE RALLY? 

MOTO, UTV, BUGGY OR CAR?

There are several different options to participate in the Real Way to Dakar
so all you need to do is to find the vehicle that suits you best. 

MOTOS & QUADS

GENERAL

All types of off-road motorbikes and 4×2, 4×4 quads are allowed in the rally. However, we recommend that you avoid heavy bikes.
Please also read the rules of the rally thoroughly.

SAFETY

It is mandatory to wear protective harness, motorcross boots, gloves, motorcross outfit, helmet, goggles and neck brace at all times during the race. 

It is mandatory to have a proper race-insurance. 

Things you should carry on your bike at all times: 

  • 3 litres of drinking water
  • GPS tracker (delivered by ORG)
  • GPS navigation system
  • Basic tools for small repairs in the field
  • Basic first aid kit

FUEL

You need to carry enough fuel for approx. 250 km in the terrain. Be aware that if you make any navigational mistakes, you may need more than that. 

BUGGY & UTV

GENERAL

All types of Buggy and UTV vehicles are allowed. However, we recommend that you bring models that are made for participating in a rally. You can bring 2×4 and 4×4 vehicles. 

SAFETY

It is mandatory to wear a helmet, a race outfit and gloves at all times during the race. 

It is mandatory to have a fitting race-insurance

Things you should carry in your vehicle at all times: 

  • 3 litres of drinking water per person
  • GPS tracker (delivered by ORG)
  • GPS navigation system
  • Basic tools for small repairs in the fields
  • Basic first aid kit
  • Spare wheel
  • Towing rope
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Knife within reach of the pilot and co-pilot (to cut safety belts if necessary) 

FUEL

You need to carry enough fuel for approx. 250 km in the terrain. Be aware that if you make any navigational mistakes, you may need more than that. 

CARS & TRUCKS

GENERAL

All types of cars and trucks are allowed to register in the rally. However, we recommend you have at least 4×4. 

SAFETY

It is mandatory to wear both seatbelt and a helmet while driving. We also recommend that you build a cage inside your vehicle. 

It is mandatory to have a proper race-insurance. 

Things you should carry in your vehicle at all times: 

  • 3 liters of drinking water per person
  • GPS tracker (delivered by ORG)
  • GPS navigation system
  • Basic tools for small repairs in the field
  • Basic first aid kit
  • Spare wheel
  • Towing rope
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Knife within reach of the pilot and co-pilot (to cut safety belts if necessary)
  • Shovels
  • 2 sand ladders

FUEL

You need to carry enough fuel for approx. 600 km in the terrain. Be aware that if you make any navigational mistakes, you may need more than that. 

SERVICE VEHICLES

GENERAL

All types of vehicles are welcome. However, we recommend that you minimum bring a 4×4 vehicle as this gives you the opportunity to go through most terrains. 

a regular van could also be an option, but there are stretches where the road is very rough and camps with a sandy terrain. 

SAFETY

It is mandatory to wear a seatbelt while driving. 

Things you should carry in your vehicle at all times: 

  • 3 liters of drinking water per person
  • GPS navigation system
  • Basic tools for small repairs in the field
  • Basic first aid kit
  • Spare wheel
  • Towing rope
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Knife within easy reach of the pilot and co-pilot (to cut seat belts if necessary) 

FUEL

We recommend that you carry enough fuel for approx. 600 km but on most days you will pass gas stations along the service route.
